About SS 317L:
Stainless steel 317L
grade is a molybdenum-bearing alloy that is having low carbon
in it. It is the austenitic stainless steel that is providing
well improvised resistant to corrosion than other SS grades.
The low carbon content is providing sensitization resistance
during thermal or other welding processes. Though this grade
in the annealed condition is non-magnetic but after welding it
becomes little bit magnetic. SS 317L is having good corrosion
resistance in ranges of chemical, particularly in acidic
chloride atmosphere. The high level of molybdenum, chromium,
and nickel is enhancing resistance ability against general
corrosion and chloride pitting as well. With the increases in
the content of molybdenum, resistance ability increases. 317L
is resistant to sulfuric acid concentrations to 5% at the
temperature as higher as 49 Deg C. This grade at the
temperature ranging under 38 Deg C is having good resistance
to solutions of the greater concentrations.
