Stainless steel 317:
Stainless steel 317 or SS 317 is a modified version of alloy SS 316 with the greater content of molybdenum. The addition of molybdenum or Moly is resulting in the improvisation of corrosion-pitting resistance and also it enhances the strength. Stainless steel 317L is the alloy SS 317 low carbon version that is providing well-enhanced resistance to corrosion ability. The low carbon is permitting SS 317L to be easily welded without sensitization to IGC resulting from the formation of chromium carbide precipitation into the grain boundaries. SS 317 is used in the applications like paper and pulp industry, textile industry, chemical processing, etc. These pipes are well tested through some testing such as IGC test, hardness test, pitting resistance test, macro/micro test, etc. For safer transiting, it is wrapped in plastic sheets and then placed in wooden cases.
