Brief description of SMO 254:
This alloy is having high nickel content and molybdenum
of 6% in addition to nitrogen and copper. The alloy is developed for assuring resistance to stress
corrosion cracking into the boiling chloride solutions. This alloy is easy to weld and fabricate. This
grade has become an ideal choice for use in the chemical processing industries, offshore gas platform
process system, and desalination equipment.
This material is recommended for the forging temperature at the range of 1300/1050 Deg C and is annealed
at the temperature 2100 deg F. It is not easy to machine and difficult as compared to the normal
austenitic stainless steel. This grade chemical analysis is like that both austenitic and ferrite that are
formed on cooling through welding and is giving hot cracking resistance.
