Description of the material:
S31803 duplex stainless steel is highly
resistant to corrosion and works hard-enable grade. The microstructure of this grade is
consisting of both ferrite and austenitic phases. As a result, this steel is displaying
the properties of both ferrite and austenitic SS. When compared to completely pure
ferrite and austenitic grade, the combination of properties of this material can mean to
have little bit compromises. Duplex SS in many cases seems to be harder than the ferrite
SS.
The duplex stainless steel strength at few cases could be twice that for the austenitic
SS. Also, duplex SS is considered to be stress corrosion cracking resistance and is not
resistant to this form of attacks as ferritic SS. The corrosion resistance of it is good
than the other commonly used SS grades. Moreover, it is magnetic in nature, a property
that can be used for easily differentiating them from the stainless common austenitic
grades.
