Grades 1.4401 and 1.4404, commonly known as stainless steel grades 316 and 316L, are the second most commonly used stainless steel grade after 304/304L. 316 is basically an improved version of 304, with addition of molybdenum and slightly higher content of nickel.

However, both 304 and 316 grades have significant commercial usage due to their good corrosion resistant properties, crevice corrosion and cost effectiveness. Stainless steel 316 contains an addition of molybdenum that gives it improved corrosion resistance, particularly in chloride environments.

316L, the low carbon version of Stainless steel 316, while Type 316H is a higher carbon variant of 316 mainly suitable for elevated temperature applications. 316Ti is a titanium stabilized version of 316. Resistance to sensitization is achieved in type 316Ti with titanium additions to stabilize the structure against chromium carbide precipitation, which is the source of sensitization.

Specifications of Stainless Steel 316 & 316L Pipes and Tubes

Outside diameter runs from 6.00 mm up to 914.4 mm, and sizes up to 24" NB are available ex-stock. Wall thickness goes from 0.3 mm to 50 mm, covering SCH 5 through SCH XXS. We supply seamless, ERW, welded, fabricated, and cold drawn welded (CDW) types, in round, square, rectangular, coiled, "U" shape, pan cake coil, and hydraulic tube forms.

Lengths come as single random, double random, or whatever's required. Ends can be plain, beveled, or threaded, and we protect them with plastic caps during transit. Outside finish options include 2B, No.4, No.1, and No.8 mirror, or whatever the customer specifies. Delivery condition covers annealed and pickled, polished, bright annealed, and cold drawn.

Every shipment comes with mill test certificates per EN 10204 3.1. On top of that, chemical, mechanical, PMI, visual, and third-party inspection reports from NABL-approved labs, plus destructive and non-destructive test reports if you need them. Packing is wooden boxes, plastic bags, or steel strip bundling, depending on what works for you. Anything outside this range, sizes or specs, we can manufacture on request.
