About ASTM A 335/ A691 GR P11 Alloy Steel Seamless & EFW Pipes:
ASTM A335
or A691 pipe is an alloy steel pipe that can work in high-temperature service. These pipes
are produced with minimum or nominal wall thickness. This is a P grade pipe consist of
chromium and molybdenum. The presence of these two elements in the product infuses some of
the excellent properties that are desired in applications mentioned above.
The yield strength, tensile strength, and hardness offered by the pipes come from the
chromium elements. This addition strengthens the pipe to combat oxidation during services at
high temperature.
The other properties such as temperature strength, weldability, hardenability, and the
elastic limit are improved by the addition of molybdenum. Brittleness of seamless pipes made
from this grade steel is reduced due to molybdenum.
The ASTM A335 specification allows the pipes to be used at 1000 degrees and more with 5000
psi in boiler plants.
